Student Government Constitution
Section 4: Powers and Duties of the President. The powers and duties of the President of the Student Government Association shall include the following actions:
The President shall have the authority to call meetings of the Student Government Association by the posting of a written notice at least 48 hours in advance of the intended meeting.
(a) The President shall have the authority to issue Executive Orders pursuant to her/his duties.
(b) The President shall issue the Executive Branch Charter each year at the
beginning of the Fall semester. The Charter may be issued pursuant to Executive Order, and contains the operating procedures for the Executive Board.
(c) The President has the responsibility to execute all powers and duties contained
within this Constitution.
(d) The President has the duty of presiding at all meetings of the Executive Board; however she or he may vote in Board matters only when necessary to break a tie.
(e) The President shall have the authority to make or delegate the making of
appointments on behalf of the United Student Association as may be required by the University community.
(f) The President shall administer the Oath of Office to each of the other Executive Board officers.
(g) The President shall represent the Student Government Association at official university functions, and shall act as spokesperson for same.
(h) The President shall attend at least one meeting of each branch of the SGS per
semester.
(i) The President shall meet with the Presidents of student governments at the Dallas and Houston campuses at least once per semester.
